Summer's just around the corner, but we've still got things happening!

Dear Brethren and Friends:

Well I'm just home from the Valley's Annual (You Don't Have To Be An) Officer's Training Conference. Our elected and appointed Officers, Valley Committee Chairmen, Committee members, and Valley Brethren just interested in getting further involved were in attendance.

The Conference was a half day format and a lot new ideas were brought to the forefront. This annual conference is a vital part of our Valley's year. From whence new leaders emerge!

During my portion of the Conference I covered  "The Valley and Social Media," wherein I discussed our Valley's Facebook group and fan pages, our Google+ page, our Twitter account (@PhilaScotRite) and of course, "Across My Desk, the Web Edition." To those Brethren making their very first visit the to Web Edition, I say, Welcome!

Your humble narrator is even more humbled this day, as I was paid a compliment that went right to my heart.

A Brother who is a recent transfer into our Valley, attended the Conference today and he mentioned that one of the reasons that he wanted to get more involved in the Valley of Philadelphia is because, he came once to visit and the next time he came back, I greeted him, (as I do all members, candidates, ladies and guests) and I had remembered his name.

As wise man once told me that if you want to let anyone know that you understand and truly care about them, don't ever forget their name. I took that advice to heart and following today's comment by that Valley Brother, I know how it feels! Thank you Brother John Jackson!

So, what's next for the Valley of Philadelphia? Glad you asked!

Our Annual Meeting is Friday, 17 May 2013 at the Masonic Temple, One North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107-2520.

This probably the MOST IMPORTANT meeting of our Scottish Rite year.

The Scottish Rite Bodies open in Joint Session at 7:30 PM at which time the proposed budget for the 2013-14 Scottish Rite year will be presented for approval. After that an election will be held for the Officers of Philadelphia Lodge of Perfection, DeJoinville Council, Princes of Jerusalem, Kilwinning Chapter of Rose Croix, Benjamin Franklin Consistory, a 32nd Degree and a 33rd Degree At-Large Member of the Executive Committee and a Trustee.

After the election the Joint Session will close and we will welcome the Ladies and other Guests into Gothic Hall for the installation of the elected and appointed Officers, recognition of our 70, 65, 60 and 50-year members, presentation of the Past Thrice Potent Master's, Past Sovereign Prince's, Past Most Wise Master's and Past Commander-in-Chief's jewels and the announcement and presentation of the Valley of Philadelphia's 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award. Who is the honored recipient? You'll have to attend to find that out!

Don't forget the Valley's 4th Annual Family Day at Campbell's Field on Sunday, 9 June!

This Valley Family event features a half hour of food before the game and an hour and a half of food during the game. The game? Yes, that's right, the game, featuring the Camden River Sharks vs the York Revolution.

Tickets are still available, but we have sold this event out for 3 straight years! Tickets are $12 for those 13 and up and $6 for 12 and under. Make your check payable to "Scottish Rite Bodies" and mail it to, Scottish Rite Office, Masonic Temple, One North Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107-2520.

If our track record holds true, we'll sell out this year too! Send for your tickets today! Don't strike out!

It's not too early to begin thinking about our 2013 Fall Class!

The Class which has been named the "Supreme Council, Northern Masonic Jurisdiction 200th Anniversary Class," begins on Friday, 18 October and concludes on Friday, 15 November. The Degrees to be conferred during this Reunion haven't been selected, but once they are, they will be posted here at the Web Edition. Stay tuned!

Well, that will do it for this Edition. As always, I pray that Grand Architect watches over you and yours.

Hope to see you this Friday at the Annual!

Sincere fraternal regards,

Steven A. Morrison, 33
Valley Secretary
