Dear Brethren and Friends:

Good Morning and good Wednesday everyone. Yes, I know it's doing that (I'm not using the 's' word) again, but it's not going to be much and it's outta here before we'll know it.
But, the one good thing, the silver lining if you will, is that Spring is just around the corner. Yes, it is. I'm already in 'Spring Reunion mode' in the Scottish Rite office, the parts have all been sent out for both of the Reunion meetings, I'm already taking March dinner reservations, the notices for the Officer's Conference, the Memorial Service and even our Family Life event at the Riversharks are posted.

And another sure sign of Spring, petitions are coming into the office! Do we have one from your Candidate yet? There's still time, but, there's something you probably didn't know that I need to inform you of.

As you most likely know by now, our dinner reservation deadline had to be changed as the Temple's caterer wants our final dinner count 10 days before the meeting. Which means by the way, if you're coming to dinner on 3/21, I have to know by 3/11. Don't miss that! Because of this change, our petition deadline which WAS always the Friday before the beginning of the Reunion had to be changed too. So, for those of you thinking, "Okay, the Reunion begins on March 21st, so I have until, March 14th to get my friend's petition in, that's cool. I still have time." No, you don't! Because of the ten day notice to the caterer, the former one week away deadline, is now changed too! The deadline for Candidates for this Class is now, March 7th! Hear that? That's the amplified TICK, TICK, TICK of time slipping way. So, if you have a Candidate or a Brother who may develop into a Candidate, get it done TODAY!

Have a great day everyone and don't worry about that stuff tumbling out of the sky, it's not an all day thing.

Tuesday, February 25, 2014

Dear Brethren and Friends:

Last Fall as we were building the Class, I used to post each day on the Valley's Facebook group page, the count of Candidates that we had.

Some Brethren have told me that my postings spurred them on to go and get a Candidate or two and overall sparked enthusiasm going into the Reunion.

So, what worked once. . ....

As of today, Tuesday, 25 February 2014, we currently have 23 Candidates.

Now, along with my postings we had a few Brethren make BOLD PREDICTIONS as to who many we would get.

Do we have any Bold Predictors this time?  Lets hear them!

If you haven't gotten a Candidate, do you have someone in mind? Have you spoke with him yet? You're waiting on, what exactly?

Perhaps a little competition between the Lodges might help. Nothing gets the Brethren motivated better than defending their Lodge's honor. Here are the counts right now:

FIRST PLACE-TIE
Lodges No. 115 & 529 both have 4 candidates in the Class although a few of them in both Lodges are 'no-shows' from last time.

SECOND PLACE-TIE
Lodges No. 67 & 767 both have three candidates. I expect big numbers from Lodge No. 767, the Grand Master's Lodge and he is the honoree. Pride is at stake there.

 THIRD PLACE-TIE
Lodges 59, 125, 126, 211, 400, 482, 591, 620 and 776 are log-jammed with 1 a piece.
Is your Lodge listed?

Philadelphia Region Master Masons: If you just answered, "No" to that question, it means that you have not had the experience of taking part in the 'spiritual center of Freemasonry.'

WE DID IT!

Dear Brethren and Friends:

Hey! We did it! We reached our goal of 50 shirts sold to benefit our Valley's Almoner Fund!

Actually at last check we've sold 51 and that number can still go up. The campaign goes on until this Sunday, 16 February at 10PM, so if you haven't ordered a shirt, you still can. Click on over to
http://teespring.com/philascottishrite if you want to take part.

Thank you to everyone who supported this effort. Our Almoner Fund, which will assist worthy Valley Brethren in distress, i
s a new fund to our Valley so every contribution it takes in helps to strengthen it.

Just like the back of the shirt says, we are, "Pennsylvania Freemasonry's Best Kept Secret" and the secret which isn't so secret is this, we're a great Valley and we work together to prove it every time.

THANK YOU BRETHREN!
Dear Brethren and Friends:

The Right Worshipful Grand Secretary made the announcement yesterday that the Masonic Temple would be closed today. To prepare for that closing I brought home a ton of work and have been busy with it all day today.

Well, Mayor Nutter just announced that the City of Philadelphia will be closed tomorrow to all non-essential personnel. While I am 'essential' to our Valley Office, in compliance with the Mayor's order, the Scottish Rite Office will be closed tomorrow as well. I still have enough work to keep me busy, after I dig out from this snowfall that is.

Be careful everyone. Be safe. Shovel smart, push, don't lift, take frequent breaks and hydrate!

Philadelphia Region Master Masons: Our Spring Reunion begins on Friday, 21 March.

Our Class Honoree is our Right Worshipful Grand Master and Valley of Philadelphia member, Ill. Robert J. Bateman, 33.

We have to reach our goal of 50 shirts sold to make this happen, and we sitting at 41 shirts sold. We're very close. Will you be the Brother that puts us over the top?

Philadelphia Region Master Masons: Our Spring Class, (yes this Monster Winter we're having will end eventually), begins on Friday, March 21, 2014.

Our Right Worshipful Grand Master, Ill. Robert J. Bateman, 33, who is also a member of the Valley of Philadelphia, is our Class Honoree.

Our Membership Team, also known as "Bro. Dan" visits Newtown Lodge No. 427 at the Masonic Temple in Woodside this evening.

If you're able, available and in the area, why not stop on by and support our Brother and our Valley?

Hey, don't look know but our Almoner Fund T-Shirt Campaign is chugging along. We've sold 37 shirts on our way to our goal of 50+. To those that have purchased a shirt, thank you for supporting our campaign and for supporting those Valley Brethren and their families who may one day need the assistance of our Almoner Fund.

To those that haven't ordered a shirt yet, why not head on over to
http://teespring.com/philascottishrite ...now and order yours?

I just know there's going to be that one guy who will come up to me at the Valley's annual Family Day Picnic at the Riversharks, amidst a sea of Brethren wearing their shirts, and he will say, "Can I still get one?" or "Are you going to sell those again?" and I will have to look him and sadly shake my head, no. Don't be that guy! Get your shirt today. Our campaign ends on Sunday, 16 February if we don't reach 50, we'll sell zero shirts and make zero money for our Almoner Fund!

There's another way to support our Valley too and that is with a Candidate! Do you have one yet? The clock is ticking. We have 16 Candidates for the Class, we can do way better. We've done that.

Well, I have a train to catch so I better get ready. SNOWMAGEDDON is on its way, get the bread, the milk, the tp, the rock salt and don't forget that LIFE SAVING, well yours anyway, VALENTINES GIFT!

Tuesday, February 11, 2014

Dear Brethren and Friends:

Hey! Did you see that? We've sold 22 of our shirts. We're thisclose to being halfway to our goal!

If you haven't been over to http://teespring.com/philascottishrite yet, click on over and give it a look.

If we reach our goal of 50 (hopefully, more) we'll make some money for our Almoner Fund. Plus, yes there's a plus, You'll have a really cool shirt to wear at our annual Valley Family Day/Picnic at the Camden Riversharks this year. Relax ticket details will be in the March... Double Eagle.

Snowmageddon is on its way by the end of this week, so I'll let you go now as I know you're probably very anxious to get the bread, milk and the oh-so necessary TP!

Think Candidates! Get a one or more TODAY!

Monday, February 10, 2014

Dear Brethren and Friends:

Good Morning and Good Monday everyone! So we got more of the white stuff last night, but thankfully it wasn't as bad as we've had so far. Slippery no doubt, but not as deep and heavy.

Today I will be sending letters of invitation and petitions to over 100 of our local area Brethren in regards to our Spring Class. We have 16 Candidates for the Class right now. We've got work to do!

Bro.
Dan Scheetz, our Associate Member Coordinator and self described Steve Morrison impersona...tor, has scheduled a bunch of "Scottish Rite Nights" at area Lodges. As they occur they will be posted here on this page. If you are able to go out and support Bro. Dan, please do. The first of these nights will happen this Wednesday evening, 12 February at Newtown Lodge No. 427 at the Masonic Temple in Woodside.

By now you all have seen my posting regarding the t-shirt sale to benefit our Almoners Fund. We sold Valley t-shirts a few years back, and it took us a few years to sell our inventory. Recently newer members who have seen those shirts have asked me about having them made available again, but like I said it took awhile to sell them so that probably wasn't going to happen. This t-shirt sale, is COST-FREE to the Valley. How's that? Easy. The company will not print any shirts unless we reach our initial goal of 50 shirts sold. You buy the shirt. We reach 50 or hopefully more, they'll make the shirt and send it to you. We in turn will receive a check for our Almoners Fund. IF we do not reach our goal, you won't receive a shirt or be billed for it and our Almoner Fund will receive NADA. So far we've sold 15 shirts, so we have more to go. I'm also proud to announce that our Deputy, the Ill. Russell W. Baker,33 purchased one! How cool is that?

Our Family Life Chairman, Ill. Jim Rae, 33 MSA has again scheduled our annual Valley family picnic at the Camden Riversharks. This has been a very popular event for the Valley and we always sell it out. Imagine a crowd of Valley members over at the game wearing these new shirts! Get yours today!

Head on over to http://teespring.com/philascottishrite to order your shirt!

Sunday, February 9, 2014

Dear Brethren and Friends:

Now you can show the world that you're a proud member of the Valley of Philadelphia and help us raise funds for our Valley's Almoner Fund!

Spring and Summer are just around the corner and you can be ready with a really cool t-shirt!

Please visit http://teespring.com/philascottishrite and get your shirt today!

We have to reach our initial goal of 50 shirts sold before the shirts are produced. Be one the first to be a part of this effort to help your Brothers in distress.

YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE!

Dear Brethren and Friends:

If anyone is looking from relief from the local power outages, Valley Brother, Dan Scheetz just contacted me to let us know that Jenkintown Masonic Temple, 443 Old York Road, is open and welcoming you. Come on over and get warm, charge your phone/electronics. Parking is available at the church across the street from the Temple or at the Jenkintown Public Library. DO NOT PARK IN ANY BUSINESS PARKING LOT OR YOU WILL BE TOWED!

Bro. Dan also says the local restaurants are open as well, so food is available close by and you can bring it back to the building to eat.

PHILADELPHIA REGION MASTER MASONS: If you're searching for further Light in Freemasonry, might we suggest the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite?

Our Degrees will offer you a fresh new insight into your personal journey toward becoming a better man.

Our Spring Reunion begins on Friday, March 21st and there is still plenty of time for you to become a part of it. Call 215-563-1814 for more information.

Wednesday, February 5, 2014

And, we want to share it with YOU, Philadelphia Region Master Mason!

Our Spring Reunion begins on Friday, 21 March. The Class is named in honor of our own Valley Brother and Right Worshipful Grand Master, Ill. Robert J. Bateman, 33.

He w
ill be with us on Friday, 11 April to take part in the conferral of the 32nd Degree.

What an honor that will be for the members of the Class, and possibly for YOU!

For more information or to get a petition, call 215-563-1814.

Dear Brethren and Friends:

Woke up this morning to a blinking alarm clock. Two things learned from that. One, power obviously went out. Two, I need to replace the back up batteries!

This ice storm is causing delays throughout the area, so needless to say, although open today, the Scottish Rite Office will open late.

Be safe out there as you travel to where you need to be today. This stuff will be out of here by the end of the day, but right now there are trees and wires coming down.

Monday, February 3, 2014

Dear Brethren and Friends:

Well, I don't know what it's doing where you are but, here in Glenside it's been snowing for quite a while and we have lots of heavy wet snow on the ground and it's coming down fast and serious! See what I did there? I avoided that whole copyright infringement thing! Even on a Super Bowl Monday! Or should that be a 'Super Blowout Monday?'

Last night I received word from Valley Brother and Associate Membership Coordinator,
Dan Scheetz, that this evening's "Scottish Rite Night" at West Chester Lodge No. 322 has been postponed until this date next month. If you had planned to visit along with Bro. Dan this evening, get this new date on your calendar. Of course I will post a reminder on this page next month.

Following the old policy, if the publics and parochials are closed, so is the Valley office today.

Take it easy if you have to go out. The talking heads are calling this a 'heart attack snow' which means, because it is wet and heavy shoveling can be hazardous. Please take your time shoveling, push it, don't lift it, take frequent breaks, or pay that kid down the street. Yes, I'm talking to YOU, Bro. Rich Jones, MSA!

Okay winter, give us a break already!
